F.P. Journe Watches: A Collector’s Guide to the Collections and Buying in Dubai

By Luxury PerpetualBuying Guides
F.P. Journe Chronomètre Bleu with blue dial and tantalum case

F.P. Journe is an independent watchmaker that designs and makes its own movements. The brand’s motto, Invenit et Fecit (“invented and made”), sums it up. If you are looking for an F.P. Journe in Dubai, this guide explains how the collections differ, what to check on a pre-owned piece, and which watches we have in our F.P. Journe collection right now.

The three F.P. Journe collections

F.P. Journe groups its current watches into three collections. Each one has a distinct character, so it helps to know which one you are looking at before you compare prices.

Classique Collection

The Classique Collection holds the brand’s dress watches and complications. According to F.P. Journe’s own collection pages, it includes the Chronomètre Bleu (Ref. CB), Chronomètre Souverain (Ref. CS), Automatique Lune (Ref. AL2), Quantième Perpétuel, Chronomètre à Résonance, Répétition Souveraine and Tourbillon Souverain.

Two references show what makes the collection special:

  • Chronomètre Bleu (Ref. CB): a 39 mm tantalum case with a chrome blue dial, powered by the hand-wound Calibre 1304. The movement is made in 18K rose gold, uses two mainspring barrels in parallel and runs for about 56 hours (F.P. Journe).
  • Automatique Lune Havana (Ref. AL2): a platinum case with a Havana guilloché dial, large date, power-reserve indicator and moon phase, powered by the automatic Calibre 1300.3 (F.P. Journe).

Linesport Collection

Linesport is F.P. Journe’s sportier line, with the Chronomètre Furtif, Automatique Réserve, Centigraphe and Chronographe Rattrapante (F.P. Journe). The Chronographe Rattrapante uses Calibre 1518 and is offered in several metals and dial colours.

Élégante Collection

The Élégante uses F.P. Journe’s electromechanical Calibre 1210, a quartz-regulated movement with a patented two-rotor motor, in a Tortue-shaped case of 40 mm or 48 mm (F.P. Journe). That makes it the most practical F.P. Journe for everyday wear.

What to check before buying a pre-owned F.P. Journe

F.P. Journe watches are made in small numbers, so condition and paperwork matter even more than usual. Before you buy, check:

  1. Reference and movement. Match the reference and calibre to the brand’s specification. A Chronomètre Bleu, for example, should have a tantalum case and the rose-gold Calibre 1304.
  2. Box and papers. Original papers confirm the watch’s history and support its resale value.
  3. Service history. Ask when the watch was last serviced and by whom.
  4. Case and dial condition. Tantalum and platinum show wear differently from steel, so look at the case in good light.
  5. The seller. Buy from a dealer who inspects every watch and stands behind its authenticity. Read how we check authenticity and our guide to buying a pre-owned watch in Dubai.

Frequently asked questions

Where can I buy an F.P. Journe in Dubai?

Luxury Perpetual lists pre-owned and unworn F.P. Journe watches in Dubai, with international delivery. You can see current pieces on our F.P. Journe page.

Why are most F.P. Journe prices on request?

Prices for rare independent watches move with the market, so we confirm each watch’s price when you enquire.

What is the difference between the Chronomètre Bleu and the Chronomètre Souverain?

Both use the hand-wound Calibre 1304. The Chronomètre Bleu has a 39 mm tantalum case with a blue dial, while the Chronomètre Souverain has a 40 mm platinum case with a silver guilloché dial (F.P. Journe).

Is the F.P. Journe Élégante mechanical?

No. The Élégante uses Calibre 1210, an electromechanical movement regulated by quartz, which is why it suits everyday wear.

Can I sell my F.P. Journe to Luxury Perpetual?

Yes. Tell us about your watch on our sell your watch page and we will come back to you with next steps.

Collector’s notes

01The inscription

Rolex · Ref. 6239 · 1968

Joanne Woodward gave Paul Newman this Daytona and had a message engraved on the back: “DRIVE CAREFULLY ME”. Collectors had long used his name for this style of dial. In 2017 his own watch sold at Phillips in New York for US$17,752,500.

02The double signature

Patek Philippe · Ref. 5711/1A-018 · 2021

Patek Philippe made 170 of these steel Nautilus watches for the 170th anniversary of its partnership with Tiffany & Co. Both houses signed the blue dial. The first example sold at Phillips for US$6,503,500 in 2021, benefitting The Nature Conservancy.

03The gold bezel

Audemars Piguet · Ref. 5402 · 1978

Gérald Genta acquired this example of his own design in 1978. Look at the contrast between the yellow-gold bezel and the steel bracelet. According to his family, Genta’s atelier made the bezel. Sotheby’s described the watch as possibly unique when it came to auction in 2022.
